Description of the flag

A white bordered flag with a rectangular illustration, split diagonally. The upper fly part shows a silhouette of a building with clock tower in white against a blue background, and the town name. The lower hoist part shows an illustration of a man riding a horse behind a stone wall in red and the date of incorporation on a blue background. Tewksbury is in Middlesex County.

Bicentennial Flag

An eBay offer by "edwinart" (aka eBay Store Edwin's Stuff) no. 200257090164 (end 30 Sep 2008) concerned a variant of this flag. It is simply the town flag provided with a wider white margin so as to make room for a bicentennial legend at the bottom (blue letters): "AMERICAN REVOLUTION BICENTENNIAL / 1776-1976".

The rider, holding a flintlock, appears to be riding away from a farmhouse and jumping over the wall; to the left of the wall is placed a leafless tree. This scene probably represents a historical event, see this page: www.tewksburyhistoricalsociety.org/SocietyStore/index.html

"The 2" high "Town Seal Magnet" is embossed with the colorful scene depicting the nameless rider warning Tewksbury minutemen that the "British are marching on Concord!" The Battle of Concord was fought on 19 Apr 1775. I suppose this is the building shown in the fly, Tewksbury Town Hall: www.flickr.com/photos/griddlecakes/3177850859/
