Description of the flag

The flag of the City of Warsaw, Indiana, is white with city logo on it. The logo has oval shape. It contains a city buildings skyline, and lake with two birds and a yacht, a yellow stripe with "WARSAW" in black and smaller "INDIANA" in white below it, all surrounded by a blue line. Above and below two yellow scrolls - "City of Lakes - Since 1854" above, and "Living, Working, Playing" below. Image of the flag thanks to Michelle Bormet, Secretary to the Mayor.

1976 flag

Another case of a forgotten municipal flag. According to this issue of the Times-Union of Warsaw, Indiana, the flag of Warsaw was hoisted for the first time on the flagpole in front of a McDonald's on 115 Detroit Street (which I am pretty sure does not exist today), since the contest was sponsored by the McDonald's (and with even entries going through there). The flag was designed by Edson Moyer, who was rewarded with the flag, a $100 U.S. savings bond, and a plaque. This flag seems to have been adopted on October 7, 1976 during the American bicentennial year, and was among 50 entries to the contest.

The flag was in 3:5 proportions. Although the black and white image is not very visible, the article says it depicts the founding of Warsaw in 1854, a factory for industry, and a Native American representing the first people in the area. It also shows a wheat stem for agriculture and 19 stars standing for Indiana being the 19th state. The area around the lettering is blue and white for the many lakes and waterways of the city. The flag was available for purchase for $17.
