Description of the flag

In 1867, one star was added, representing Nebraska, bringing the total number of stars to 37. There were thirteen stripes representing the thirteen original colonies.

A 37-Star U.S. flag: Nebraska Statehood. 60" x 33" wool bunting flag with row pattern of thirty-seven [37] stars: 7-8-7-8-7, appearing on both sides of the canton through a peek-a-boo cutout. Entirely hand-sewn. Hoist at left has two grommets and is stamped "X X Annin & Co." Valid from March 1,1867 to August 1, 1876. (credit: Heritage Auctions)

A 37-star "flush right" canton variety: with a star arraignment of 8/7/7/7/8; (50" x 77.5"). It is sometimes referred to as the "Nebraska Flag" to celebrating Nebraska's entry into statehood with the Union on March 1, 1867, so official use between July 4, 1867 - July 3, 1877.

"Medallion" Centennial Flag (1867). The "Betsy Ross" circle of 13 stars are in the inner ring to identify the original 13 colonies, and an outer circle of 24 stars identify the states that have joined the union since that time. This flag was one of many that were made to celebrate the upcoming First Centennial.
