Presidential Flag

image by Hemendra Bhola, 19 June 2021

According to 'Pavillons nationaux et marques distinctives' [pay00], the President's flag is a 3:5 dark blue field with a big national coat of arms in a golden laurel wreath. 'Dorling-Kindersley Pocket Book' [udk97] says the coat of arms represents the three ships of Columbus who landed in Trinidad in 1498. The top of the shield depicts two hummingbirds. The supporters are two local birds, a scarlet ibis and a cocrico, respectively. The shield stands on waves breaking against the rocky coasts of the islands. The same source states the flag was chosen from designs sent by the public.

Politikens Flagbook, says that the National flag was chosen from designs sent in by the public. (It also just mentions that Columbus landed "here"(??) in 1498. ). It adds that the country also has a flag for the Prime minister, that we do have a description of, and for several other ministers, that we apparently know nothing about. The coat of arms on the Presidential Flag appears to be the same one we have on the page (see: Coat of arms) , including the helmet and the scroll. PF calls the field "blue", and it uses a saturated blue colour, but not a really dark one; even the blue of the blue ensigns is a slightly darker colour.

According to Album 2000 [pay00] - President of the Republic (3:5~) - Blue flag with the coat of arms withing a golden wreath. The [udk97] used lighter blue but what is more correct is not clear to me.

This image is based on photos of the flag seen behind the President. It appears that the Coat of Arms and circular wreath are both 'gold' in color rather than the coat of arms being in it's proper color as is reported previously.

These version of the President's standard have been published, but based on images of the actual flag, the coat of arms does not appear in colour on any current President’s Standard.

Prime Minister Flag

The flag of the prime minister is white with the state flag in the upper left corner and the coat of arms in a laurel wreath centered on the right half of the flag.

According to Album 2000 [pay00] - Prime Minister (3:5~) - White flag with the national flag in canton and the coat of arms within a golden wreath in the fly. Peter Hans van den Muijzenberg notes that Politikens Flagbook (which one?) mentioned, but do not describe flags for other ministers, too.
