İHÜ (website) was established in
2015 by the Turkish Youth and Education Service Foundation (Türkiye
Gençlik ve Eğitime Hizmet Vakfı- TÜRGEV). The foundation was established in 1996, as the İstanbul Youth and Education Service Foundation
(İstanbul Gençlik ve Eğitime Hizmet Vakfı - ISEGEV), by Recep Tayyip
Erdoğan, then Mayor of İstanbul.
İHÜ, inaugurated in May 2017, is composed of 5 Schools and 4 Institutes.
Classes are expected to start in fall 2017.
İHÜ is named for the Arab historian Ibn Khaldūn (1332-1406; biography), author of Kitāb al-ʻIbar (Book of Lessons), a universal history of the time. The first volume of the book, Muqaddimah (Introduction; English translation) presents a theory of social conflict that inspired sociologists and philosophers after the western rediscovery of the book in the 19th century.

IŞIK University (website) was established in 1996 by the Feyziye Schools Foundation (Feyziye Mektepleri Vakfı - FMV).
The institution originates in the Feyz-i Sibyan School, founded on 14 December 1885 in Salonica. It moved to İstanbul in the early 20th century and established a campus in Nişantaşı, Şişli. Feyziye School was renamed to IŞIK in 1935 during the celebration of its 50th anniversary.
IŞIK University is composed of 5 Faculties, 1 School and 2 Graduate Schools.

İAÜ (website) was established on 18 May 2007 by Law No. 5,656, published in the Turkish
official gazette, No. 26,536. İAÜ was founded by the Aydın Education and
Culture Foundation (Aydın Kültür Ve Eğitim Vakfı - AKEV), incorporating Anadolu BIL College of Vocational Education, founded in 2003.
İAÜ is named for Mustafa Aydın (b. 1956), who founded AKEV in 1995,
together with a group of academicians and businessmen.
İAÜ is composed of 11 Faculties, 3 Vocational Schools, 2 Schools and 3
Institutes.

İKÜ (website) was established in 1997 by the Kültür Schools Foundation (KEV). The founder of KEV, Fahamettin Akıngüç, is the son of Halil Akıngüç (1900-1957), who established in 1932 the first private preparatory school in Turkey, Kültür Dersevi.

İstanbul Gedik University (website) was established in 2010 by the Gedik Education Foundation, founded on 7 September 1994 by the engineer and industrialist Halil Kaya Gedik (d. 2012).
The university is composed of 6 Faculties, 4 Institutes, and 1 Vocational School.
Halil Kaya Gedik, one of the first international welding engineers in Turkey, graduated from the Mechanics Department of İstanbul Yıldız Technical School in 1953; he continued his education in Germany, and graduated from the Mechanical Engineering Department of Germany Staatliche Universität Konstanz and also from the Welding Engineering Department of DVS of German Welding Society in Frankfurt. He worked in different sections of MAN throughout his education in Germany.
Halil Kaya Gedik, started his career in the Welding Group of Eskişehir Turkish State Railways Factories in 1957. At the beginning of 1960s,he participated in the project of producing the first domestic car called “Devrim”. He continued his efforts in the welding field in the private sector after 1963 and built electrode, casting and valve and welding machine factories. Halil Kaya Gedik was the first person to introduce precision casting technology and built the first factory in this sector in Turkey.
