Takhtamukayskiy rayon was created in 1924 in then Adygeyskaya (Cherkesskaya)
Autonomous Oblast in then South East Oblast. Takhtamukayskiy Rayon has 2 Urban Settlements and 5 Rural Settlements. Enemskoe and Yablonovskoe Urban Settlements and Afipsipskoe, Kozetskoe, Starobzhegokayskoe, Takhtamukayskoe, and Shendzhiyskoe Rural Settlements. Enemskoe has coat of arms and flag, and Yablonovskoe and Afipsipskoe have project symbols. All other subdivisions are without any known symbols.
