It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field gyronny of eight (city rank) of white and blue (see left image above) or erroneously of blue and white (see right image above.

Shield Argent, frigate Sable garnished Argent and rigged Gules, fed by branches of pine and cruising over three barrulets wavy Azure in base, accompanied in dexter chief by a grape Purpure leafed Vert and in sinister chief by a cogwheel Sable. Mural crown with five visible towers (city rank) and white scroll reading in black capitals "CIDADE DE AMORA".
