Shield Argent with base wavy of Azure and Argent, an olive tree eadicated Vert fruited Sable. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "UNIÃO DAS FREGUESIAS DE ROMEIRO E VÁRZEA".

Presentation of Romeira e Várzea

Romeira is one of the communes of Santarém Municipality, created by the 2013 mergers; it had 2450 inhabitants in 2021 and covered 32,5 km².

Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, in centre two wavy staffs Purpure crossed saltirishly, in dexter and sinister quarter three wheat ears Vert tied Gules, in chief quarter a cross patty rounded Gules, in base quarter three olive branches Vert fruited Sable. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black initials: "ROMEIRA - SANTARÉM".
Meaning:
The wavy staffs are used for for reaping the olives, together with the base quarter they allude to the local importance of cultivating olives. The wheat ears are stressing the importance of grain. The cross is those of the Templars and is also a decoration of the so called "estela funerária", being located in the local parish church. Draft designed by José Bènard Guedes.

Shield Vert with a base wavy of Argent and Azure, a bridge Argent issuant masoned black, above at dexter a mill wheel roped Or and rigged Argent, at sinister a watermill #s wheel Or, in chief a lying crescent Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black initials: "VÁRZEA - SANTARÉM".
Meaning:
The crescent is an attribute of Our Lady of Conception, the local patron saint. The millwheels are symbolising the rural character of the commune. The base wavy is representing the banks of Vilgateira and the Pau River as well. The green colour is symbolising the riches of the fields. Draft designed by José Bènard Guedes.
