It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of green and yellow.

Shield Azure, issuant from base a triplemount Or, charged with two eradicated beech trees ordered fess, in chief a goshawk volant Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "FAIAL DA TERRA".
Meaning:
The beeches are canting elements, as faial means beech grove. The goshawk is a local symbol of the Açores.

Faial da Terra Commune is one of the six communes of Povoação Municipality; it had 379 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 11.4 km².
