About the Flag

It is a fairly untypical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a quartered field (town rank) red and yellow.

Presentation of Proença-a-Velha

Proença-a-Velha Commune is one of the 13 communes of Idanha-a-Nova Municipality; it had 224 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 57.8 km². The name of the town means Old Provençe (there is also a new one), probably after settlers from there after the Moorish period, but nothing on the arms refers to this connection, the red and yellow flag, matching the Occitan flag and one of the two Provencean flags, but that, derived from the charges as it is, is unlikely intentional.
