Wizna - rural commune, Łomża County, Podlaskie Voivodship.
Gmina Wizna is a rural gmina (commune) in Łomża County, Podlaskie Voivodeship,
in north-eastern Poland. Its seat is the village of Wizna, which lies approximately
21 kilometres (13 mi) east of Łomża and 54 km (34 mi) west of the regional
capital Białystok.
Area: 133.05 sq.km (51.4 sq.mi); Population: 4,313 (2006).
The commune contains part of the protected area called Łomża Landscape
Park. Heavy battle in defense of Wizna took place here in September 1939.
Arms and flag adopted on April 25, 2003 (resolution # VII/43/03).
"Arms: on the yellow shield an image of "tur" - aurochs.
Flag: Half black bear and half red eagle on the yellow background under
one crown.
This is a historical flag of "Ziemia Wiska" - Land of Wizna."
