Olesnica - urban commune, Olesnica County, Dolnośląskie Voivodship - former
German name: Öls (Oels).
The City Council's resolution # XL/309/2006 dated April 28, 2006 says
among other things:
"The simplified Arms of the City of Olesnica is the image of the white
eagle, the symbol of Saint John the Evangelist, with the head turned
right and the wings spread wide. The eagle's head is encircled with the
gold aureole. In its talons, the eagle holds the gold ribbon with the legend:
"S-IOEVAN".
The eagle is placed on the red field of the Spanish-style heraldic
shield outlined with thin black line.
There is also a more elaborate version of the Arms (displayed on the
flag) with the addition of various heraldic charges, like a knight's
helmet, a crown, jewels and towers.
The City's colors are yellow, white and red arranged into the flag of
three equal horizontal bands:
upper - yellow
middle - white
bottom - red
The ratio of the flag is 5:8
The ceremonial flag of the City should be 3:5 with the yellow
part being of 2/5 of the length of the flag and the rest of the equal,
white and red bands arranged
horizontally. In the middle of the yellow part, the full (great) Arms
of the City are placed."
There are websites on the net severely criticizing the city's government
for sloppily displaying their own flag with widely different proportions
and wrong placements
of the Arms contradicting the laws they passed themselves. That's a
life in the Big City ( not really - population only 37 000)
