Etne municipality is situated in Hordaland county.
The municipality of Etne was created by the unification of the municipalities
Etne and Skånevik in 1965, and the flag flown by the municipality reflects the
fact of the municipality's dual origin. By choosing a field divided per pale
dovetailed blue and white, the municipality wanted to symbolize the spirit of
unity. The idea of the design originated with the late Magnus Hardeland in 1978,
but the final design was made by John Digernes. Approval was granted by Royal
resolution dated 16 December 1983.
