Yellow and blue are derived from the municipal arms. Red and yellow
from the arms of Oeffelt en Gennep. Yellow and red represent also the colors
of the guild "Salvator Mundi".
The wavy partition symbolizes the Maas river. The SBH notes that this
is misrepresented in the municipal arms by a faintly bent fess.

Oeffelt is along the Maas river, opposite Gennep.
Nickname: "Papvrééters" - porridge eaters, used by Boxmeerders,
because Oeffelters nicknamed the Boxmeerders "Keischieters" (rock-shooters).
