The council informed me they do not have information on its history. It is made official by its Municipal Regulation on Police and Government. The coat of arms of Tierranueva typically has branches above it that read in between "19 DE ABRIL DE 1712", its foundation. Under the shield, sometimes it reads in a ribbon "SAN NICOLAS DE TIERRANUEVA RIO DE JOFRE". The shield is composed of a blue field, having at the bottom a white triangle. The triangle depicts a temple with a cross over it and three waves, characteristic of the "La Muñeca" Dam; the temple signifies its foundation by missionaries. The left side depicts the Franciscan symbol (two arms, one clothed and the other bare, and a cross over it), symbol of its founders. The right side depicts a sombrero as a symbol of nobility and faith, as well as the typical wear of the inhabitants and its regional fair. In the center, a red band is also seen, representing a type of stone slab called "sangre de pichón" for the exploitation of rocks in its mines. The five sections it forms are for the fractions in which the municipality was divided.
