The Emir's Standard is based on the national flag and defaced with the golden Emir's crown in the middle of the green stripe.

I visited the Kuwait Marine Museum on Apr 18th 2009, took some flag photos and bought a book titled "Kuwait's Age of Sail," published in 1993 and showing some flag pictures.

The 1956 personal flag of the Kuwaiti Emir has a red field, with in the hoist vertical white shahada, and in the fly a big white Arabic writing. I have here a young Kuwaiti midshipman who recognised this as historically correct; the writing means "Kuwait."
