Located in Kyoto City Kyoto Prefecture and established in 1961.
The university flag has navy blue background with a gold emblem in the center.
In the center of the emblem is a Bible with the words "Virtus et Scientia," which means "Virtue and Knowledge" in Latin. With this as its motto, the university provides education that aims to develop the whole person with "Virtue and Knowledge".The initials J and M, the initials of Jesus Christ and his mother Mary, are written in the center of the emblem. The emblem is framed by the words "Kyoto Notre Dame Women's University" in the hope that this education will be accomplished at the university. The central book displayed, the Bible, is supported by a wreath of hemp palms and laurel. The laurel signifies academic achievement, and the palm represents the joy of having reached that goal.

The university emblem consists of a Bible with the university motto in Latin. Nowhere does it say that the university's motto was taken from the Bible.
