The flag and emblem were adopted on the same date (notice no. 64). The
order came into force on 10 October 1948.
The emblem is a stylized katakana ka カ, forming triangles which
represent development and growth. Also, portions of the emblem can be seen to
represent the three katakana of the city's name: ka, nu ヌ and ma
マ.

The flag of the town of Awano was maroon with mark. The town is now, from
2006, part of the city of Kanuma.
