Lajtabánság was a short lived Hungarian "state" in
the territory of nowadays Burgenland after the Treaty of Trianon
aftre the Hungarian Army left the territory but before the
Austrian annexation. The "state" lived between 4
October 1921 - 5 November 1921.

This would be maybe called in English the Bannate (or even
Palatinate) of Laita. Laita is betetr known otherwise as the
river that borders between (simply said) Austrian and Hungarian
crown lands, Cilaitania and Translaitania.
BTW, what's the thing captioned "A Lajtabansagi Csendorseg
jelzese" - it's a kind of a police insignia. Does the
writing on it suggest that the German name of Lajtabansag was
already Burgenland?
Željko Heimer, 10 June 2002
Concering Željko's question - as far as I know, the answer is
no.
István Molnár, 17 June 2002
