The municipality of Posedarje (3,607 inhabitants in 2011, 1,358 in the village of Posedarje) is located 20 km due east of Zadar, on the coast of the Novigrad Sea, a large bay entering the mainland from the north with a tight gorge at Maslenica.
The village of Islam Latinski ("Latin Islam", 284 inh.)) is part of Posedarje, while the neighboring village of Islam Grčki ("Greek Islam", 150 inh.) belongs today to the Town of Benkovac. The two villages were rebuilt as a new settlement after the Turks had conquered the area and received the name of Seed Islam (the Bulwark of Islam), being the westernmost place ruled by the Ottoman in these areas. After the liberation from Turks, the part of the very depopulated village was settled by Catholics (mostly Vlakhs), while the other part was given to the Orthodox noble family Janković, who settled there some of its own men. This is the origin of the unusual name of these two villages.

The symbols of Posedarje were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.
The flag (photo, 28 November 2008) is in proportions 1:2, dark blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.
