The Town of Čazma (8,895 inhabitants in 2001, 2,878 in the town of Čazma) is located some 25 km south-west of Bjelovar, 30 km east of Zagreb. Čazma had the Municipality status until 1997, when it was upgraded to a Town.
In the 13th century, the place was granted marketplace rights. In the 16th century, the town was conquered by the Turks and made the capital of a sanjak, soon moved to Pakrac. The town was liberated in the 17th century and refortified.

The coat of arms is in a red shield on a green mount a white church with two blue roofed bell-towers between ruined yellow embattled walls and in base a blue wavy line.
The wavy line represents river Česma, whose name is a variation of the town's name. The St. Mary Magdalene parish church is a Romanesque church with Gothical elements, being the biggest Romanesque church in Croatia, baroquized in the 18th century. The fortifications seen on the arms are no longer visible today.

The first symbols of Čazma were prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Čazma, adopted on 3 July 1992 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 6 July 1992 in the official gazette Službeni vjesnik, No. 22.
The flag is described in Article 8 of the Decision, as follows:
The flag of the municipality of Čazma is composed of two colours: blue and red. The colours are set horizontally in this order: from the top two thirds of the colour blue and one third of the colour red, that is, its top right corner merges with the diagonal ending in the bottom right corner. At the right side of the flag in the blue field is set the coat of arms of the municipality of Čazma. The ratio of width to length of the flag is 1:2.
The Decision adopts the historical coat of arms as represented by Lašovski [lsv39], "Gules a church argent roofed azure".
