Presentation of Larran

Joseph Larran (1876-1949) was a rich industrial established in Peyrehorade, near Bayonne.
Born in a millers' family, Larran was the son-in-law of Pierre Saint- Jean, a miller, Vice- President of the French Flour Trade, Industry and a municipal councillor of Peyrehorade. An experienced rower, Larran won the silver medal in single-sculls in the 1906 Athens intercalated Olympic Games; in 1905-1910, he was appointed president of Aviron Bayonnais, known today mostly as a rugby club, saving the club from a big crisis.
Larran must have had ist own fleet to export grain. He is listed as the owner of SS Normand, purchased in 1905.
