Société Nautique de la Haute-Seine is a rowing-club based in Juvisy, a few kilometers east of Paris. Haute-Seine (Upper-Seine) has to be understood as the river Seine upstream of Paris, as opposed to Basse-Seine (Lower-Seine), downstream of Paris. The department of Hauts-de-Seine is located downstream of Paris, but there Hauts means Heights, as a reference to the hill of the Seine.
In 1895, the young Fédération Parisienne d'Aviron (Paris Rowing
Federation) decided to organize rowing races on the basin made by the
Seine in Juvisy, renamed Paris-Juvisy. The basin was very close to
Paris and to a main railway station and it was of the size required for
official competitions (160 m x 2,000 m). Juvisy became a hotspot of
rowing (1909: French and European Championships; 1911 to 1914: Nations'
Cup; 1914 and 1921: Paris Championships; 1925: The first womens' French
championships).
The basin was also selected because leasure rowing was already
practiced there by Cercle des Sports de la Haute-Seine, which built
a club house in 1907 in Draveil, on the right bank of the Seine. In
1911, the rower Auguste Ransant moved from Société Nautique de la
Marne to Juvisy. He worked for the Deperdussin factory, which built the
famous Spad aircrafts used during the First World War and rowing boats.
Ransant convinced Henri Fayaut, President of Cercle des Sports, to
found a rowing club dedicated to competition, called Société Nautique de la Haute-Seine.
Société Nautique de la Haute-Seine was very successful; it organized from 1933 to 1937 the Rallye Nautique de la Haute-Seine, involving 50 eights, fours
and double-sculls for a 35-km race. The rowers of Société Nautique de la Haute-Seine won several titles in the French Championships; in 1983, two rowers from
the club were in the eight which defeated England. In 1985, the skiffer
Fabrice Mazilier beat the French record of the 24 h with 208.8 km.
The burgee of Société Nautique de la Haute-Seine is red with a white diamond charged with the red letters SNHS.

Draveil (40,000 inhabitants) is located on the river Seine, south-east of Paris.
Yacht Club de Draveil has a burgee horizontally divided blue-white-blue (~ 1:2:1) with the red letters YCD, YD being inscribed in an oval-shaped C.
