The SYAGE (Syndicat mixte pour l’Assainissement et la Gestion des Eaux du bassin versant de l’Yerres) is joint association currently composed of 28 municipalities and 25 groups of municipalities, making a total of 118 municipalities, spread across 3 departments (Essonne, Seine-et-Marne and Val-de-Marne). It is the "key player in the water policy of the Yerres-Seine watershed, to face the challenge of climate change together".
It succeeded the S.I.A.R.V. (Syndicat Intercommunal pour l'Assainissement de la Région de Villeneuve Saint Georges), created by prefectural decree date February 9, 1952 and which had been the subject of several statutory modifications, the last of which took effect on June 1, 2009. On that date, the S.I.A.R.V., an intercommunal union, was made up of 18 communes in Essonne and Val-de-Marne. (source: official website). On the proposal of the Local Water Commission of the Yerre Water Development and Management Plan, it was then decided to create a joint association by transforming the S.I.A.R.V. in order to implement the actions of the Plan. This transformation was ratified by inter-prefectural decree of September 30, 2011.
