The municipality of Les Sorinières (8,694 inhabitants in 2018; 1,302 ha) is located 10 km south of Nantes.

Les Sorinières is the location of Villeneuve Abbey, dedicated to Our Lady, a Cistercian monastery founded in 1201 by Constance, Duchess of Brittany, and dissolved in 1790 during the French Revolution. For many years, the abbey was the necropolis of the family of the founder, including Constance of Brittany (d. 1201) and her husband Guy of Thouars (d. 1213). The abbey's main remaining building, known as Villeneuve Castle, is now a hotel.
