Val Verde was used in a number of movies and TV shows as a generic South American country.

Die Hard 2 is a US movie concerning a plot by mercenaries to free a South American general being extradited to the US to face court. The General is said to come from the country of Val Verde of which little is known save that it fought, backed by the USA, against a far left insurgency.
What I assume to be its flag is seen in one scene on the general's plane when
it lands. It appear to be derived from the Bolivian flag, being an horizontal
red-yellow-green with a large centered emblem that appear to be a bird displayed
within a dark coloured wreath. Due to the nature of the country's apparent
association, I would assume the bird is meant to be an Andean Condor.

Val Verde also appeared in the 1980-s Schwarzenegger movie Commando.
There it had a different flag, though it only shows up blurrily in the background as
Arnold is mowing down whole platoons of extras in the foreground. It's a red/black/green
Canadian pale. The center panel contained an emblem, stars over two mountains inside a
double golden triangle interlaced with an also golden circle.
More or less as drawn — kind of Afghanistan-esque,
though Afghanistan had something communist-inspired at the time.
