Symbols of Alajeró

The flag and arms of Alajeró are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 13 December 2002 by the Municipal Council and published on 31 March 2003 in the official gazette of the Canary Islands, No. 62, p. 4,774 (text). The flag was initially adopted on 15 November 2002 by the Municipal Council.
The flag is described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular panel, in proportions 2:3, vertically divided, the central yellow, twice wider than the other ones, which are blue and green, respectively. In the middle of the flag is placed the municipal coat of arms surmounted with a Royal crown.

The coat of arms is described as follows:

Coat of arms: Or a dragon tree vert on waves azure and argent. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown or.

According to José Manuel Erbez (Banderas y escudos de Canarias, 2007; website), the tree represents the only dragon tree on the island, located in the El Paso area. The waves symbolize the importance of the sea and the coast for the municipality.
