The municipality of Huélamo (106 inhabitants in 2015; 7,900 ha) is located 60 km north-east of Cuenca.
Huélamo was during the Muslim rule one of the main fortresses in the Province of Cuenca, together with Uclès and Huete. The castle watched the Jews' Gorge, a strategic passage on the road to Albarracín. After the Christian reconquest, Huélamo was granted by Alfonso VIII to the Order of St. James.
