The municipality of Valle de Santa Ana (1,139 inhabitants in 2019; 383 ha, therefore the smallest municipality of Extremadura by its area, totally surrounded by Jerez de los Caballeros) is located 80 km south of Badajoz.
Valle de Santa Ana is of disputed origin. Solano de Figueroa, Ortiz de Thovar and other chroniclers, as well, claim that the village was established around an old chapel dedicated to St. Ann. Madoz believes that the village was established more recently, as Valle del Pino (Pine Valley) by families fleeing Jerez de los Caballeros, then scoured by epidemics.
In 1594, Santa Ana, then counting 1,963 inhabitants, was listed among the local possessions of the León Province of the Order of Saint James.
Valle de Santa Ana separated from Jerez de los Caballeros in 1860.

The flag (photo) and arms of Valle de Santa Ana, adopted on 27 June 1994 by the Municipal Council and validated on 8 November 1994 and 7 March 1995 by the Assessing Council of Honors and Distinctions of the Government of Extremadura, are prescribed by an Order issued on 4 April 1995 by the Government of Extremadura and published on 20 April 1995 in the official gazette of Extremadura, No. 46, pp. 1,447-1,448 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3, composed of five vertical stripes in proportions 1:3, 1:12, 1:6, 1:12 and 1:3, the outer red, the intermediate white and the central green.
Coat of arms: Argent a pine eradicated vert surrounded by roses gules. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
