The symbols of Puebloviejo are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 20 May
1980 by the Canton's Council.
The official flag of the canton shall be
composed of three horizontal white stripes and three horizontal green stripes,
placed in turn; in the upper left side is placed the canton's coat of arms, in
the center of a yellow panel of 1/4 the flag's dimensions. The colors symbolize
the purity of mind, the youth and the innumerable and abundant agricultural
resources.
The official coat of arms shall be of heraldic shape, divided
into three parts.
The first part, in the left half of the shield, features a
banana tree in production with small hills and flanked by a road; this
symbolizes the resources in bananas and the migrations to the canton.
The
second part, in the upper right part, features a river with a mature rice crop
on its bank; this symbolizes the munificent rice production and navigation.
The third part, in the lower right part, features fruits and tropical products;
this symbolizes agricultural production.
In the upper part of the shield are
placed two stars symbolizing the two rural parishes in the canton.
In the
lower part of the shield is placed a double yellow, green and white scroll
inscribed "7 de Februero de 1846" [7 February 1846], symbolizing the colors of
the canton's flag and show the date of establishment of the canton.
