Dettingen Municipal Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a red shield is a paly, golden (= yellow) wolf trap flanked by two 6-point stars of the same colour.
Meaning:
In 1930 the seal of the local mayor displayed the arms of Peter of Koblenz, a master builder, based on an image in the vault of the local St. Pancras chapel. The arms from the 15th century displayed a St. Anthony's cross (T-shaped) superimposed by the wolf trap. This pattern was mistaken as proper arms of the village. Later the proper arms had been found within a seal's print from the 17th century. The trap probably was a local symbol of the market town and the stars had been added as distinguishing marks.

Banner and coat of arms were approved on 7 March 1958 by minister of interior of Baden-Württemberg, published in GABl 219/1958.
