Shield parted per fess, above Gules a mitre Argent with scarves of the same and gemstones Gules, beneath Or a triplemount issuant Vert.
Meaning:
The mitre as hat of a bishop is a canting element. Its tinctures are referring to the Bishopric of Passau, which started the peopling of the Bavarian Forest in the 11th century. Bischofsmais was established by settlers from the bishopric by forest clearance. The green triplemount is the heraldic symbol of the Benedictine Niederaltaich Abbey, which was connected with the village by a pilgrimage church of Sankt Hermann, dedicated to the namesake saint, since the 14th century. Furthermore the abbey had been an important manorial lord.
