Rheinau Coat of Arms

Shield Or with bordure Gules, a lion rampant Sable.
Meaning:
Rheinau was established on 1 January 1975 by the merger of Freistett city and Rheinbischofsheim municipality. Before the municipalities of Diersheim, Hausgereut, Helmlingen, Holzhausen, Hönau, Linx and Memprechtshofen had been either incorporated into Freistett or into Rheinbischofsheim. Hönau belonged until 1803 to the Archbishopric of Straßburg. All other entities formed the core area of the County of Hanau-Lichtenberg on the estern bank of the Rhine. That area was commonly called Hanauerland. That lordship had been established by Konrad III of Lichtenberg (1273 - 1299), also being Archbishop of Straßburg. The new city chose the family arms of the extincted Counts of Lichtenberg as city arms.
