Velburg Coat of Arms

Shield Or a lion rampant reguardant Gules crowned Argent.
Meaning:
Already the oldest seal displays the lion reguardant on a shield. The lion is supposed to be the heraldic animal of the Counts of Velburg. The Roll of Arms of Wernigerode (1486/1492) displays the lion red on a silver shield, the Roll of Arms of Siebmacher (1605) displays him crowned and passant on the peaks of a green triplemount. All seals until the 14th century kept the original pattern. The current tinctures were first proven in 1818. The colour of the crown was golden (Siebmacher new edition 1856) or blue (Hefner 1862). The current tinctured are based on an image of Otto Hupp.

The arms were approved on 16 July 1969 by Minister of Interior of Bayern. Banners in red and yellow were used before probably with approval.
