Heldrungen Coat of Arms

French shield Azure a double queued and crowned lion rampant Or, over all a bend chequered of Gules and Argent.
Meaning:
Heldrungen is known since the 9th century as an imperial estate. The German King Heinrich II donated some local estates in 1004 to the Bishopric of Halberstadt. The Lords of Heldrungen lived in the village since 1120. The local moated castle was acquired by the Counts of Hohnstein as a fiefdom in 1435. It was sold to the Counts of Mansfeld in 1479. The village gained city rights in 1530. The Electorate of Sachsen was liege lord of the city since 1573 and acquired it completely in 1685. The arms are the family arms of the lords mentioned above, but the tinctures are wrong. The family arms of the lords had a black background. Thus the arms have nothing to do with those of Schwarzburg.

The arms are known since 1479 as a quarter of the arms of the Counts of Mansfeld.
