Shield Argent, an embattled wall Gules with port Sable and portcullis Or, crowned by a castle of the same roofed Azure and flanked by two towers of the same, in central chief an inescutcheon Or charged with a millrind Sable.
Meaning:
Hatzfeld gained city rights in 1340 by King Ludwig the Bavarian, lost them in 1885 and regained them in 1950. The arms are based on the oldest seal of the city from the 14th century. The inescutcheons displays the arms of the Lords (later Counts and Princes) of Hatzfeld, local rulers since 1139, who erected a castle in 1282 on the other bank of Eder River. The 2nd seal from the 15th century just displayed an embattled wall, charged with a millrind and crowned by two towers.
The arms were approved in 1950.
