Description of coat of arms:
In a golden (=yellow) shield is a red gable upon an embattled wall of the same colour. The whole is standing on a green mountain having three peaks. In the cantre of the gable is a golden inescutcheon showing a black cogwheel.
Meaning:
According to source gable and mountain together are canting. (Gevelsberg = gable on a mountain). The inescutcheon is symbolizing the numerous former hammer mills in the area. The colours red and yellow probably have been taken from the counts of Mark, the former rulers.
