Renaissance Shield parted per fess of Gules and Or, over all on top of an eradicated linden Vert trunked Maron a magpie statant proper.
Meaning:
Elstra was mentioned first as a parish in 1248 and had been centre of a lordship, ruled by the Burgraves of Strehla. Elstra was called a city in 1329 but a village in 1378. In 1528 it gained the rights of a market town. According to the grant the deciduous tree is a linden with seven roots. Trunk and roots had also been green before 1989. The magpie (German: Elster) is punning, not referring to the bird but to the Schwarze Elster, a river.

The banner was approved on 1 December 1997. The arms were granted on 15 September 1528 by King Ferdinand I of Böhmen.
