Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess, the upper half is divided per pale. Above right in a black field is a silver (= white) eagle, armed and tongued red. The silver (= white) field above left is divided by a black centred cross. In the red field below is a silver (= white) half gear.
Meaning:
According to source the eagle is taken from the arms of the knights Hurth of Schöneck, the cross is symbolizing the Archbishopric and Electorate of Köln. Finally the gear is symbolizing industrial development.

Flag and banner were approved by Regierungspräsident Köln on 22 February 1984, the coat of arms by minister of interior of Northrhine-Westphalia on 26 October 1934.
