The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a red over yellow over red horizontal triband with ratio 1:3:1. The coat of arms is in the centre of the flag.

Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield of the current arms is divided per pale. The dexter side shows the golden(=yellow) main tower of Raesfeld castle in a red field. The sinister side shows two red squirrels ordered vertically in a golden(=yellow) field.
The shield of the former arms is divided per pale. The dexter side shows the golden(=yellow) main tower of Raesfeld castle in a blue field. The sinister side shows three red merlettes ordered horizontally in a golden(=yellow) field.
Meaning:
According to source the tower is the main tower of Raesfeld castle, rebuilt by count Alexander of Velen in 17th century. The squirrels are taken from the arms of former municipality of Erle, which had been the arms of died out kin of von Erle called Ichorne (German: Eichhorn = squirrel). The merlettes in the former arms of Raesfeld are taken from the arms of the counts of Velen.

Flag, banner and coat of arms were approved by Regierungspräsident Münster on on 30 April 1979, the old banner by minister of interior of Northrhine-Westphalia on 25 August 1967.
