Number of inhabitants by 31.12. 2000: 6415. Vítkov was probably founded
in the second half of the 13th century, but the first written trace
dated back to 1301. Throughout years, the village, including the nearby
Vikštejn castle and surroundings, was in possession of different owners.
People were mostly farmers and craftsmen (in particular, weaving). This
gave a basis for industrial works. Slate was mined and processed in the
surroundings of Vítkov. After World War II, German population was dislocated.
