The municipality of Rolante (20,599 inhabitants in 2010; 30,353 ha) is
located 100 km north-east of Porto Alegre.

The flag and arms of Rolante are prescribed by Municipal Law No.884
promulgated on 26 April 1991.
Article 1.
The coat of arms and the flag
of Rolante have their models and colors described in Appendix I and II, which
are parts of this Law.
§1. The flag shall be rectangular, in width O.7 of its
length.
§2. The red shade of the flag shall be that of the flag of the state
of Rio Grande.
Appendix I.
1. The coat of arms of Rolante shall be
composed as follows.
1.1. A Portuguese shield surmounted by a crenulated
tower, representing the municipality's defences.
2. The shield features
the following fields and charges.
2.1. At the right angle of the upper point,
a plow and a picket, representing the colonist's hard work; an anvil,
representing autarky; and a cart, the only means of transport.
2.2. At the
left angle of the upper point, a cross and a bell, symbolizing the people's
religious feeling; a zither, representing culture in the municipality, the
singing societies, which maintains choirs; and a quill, representing education,
always in foreground.
2.3. In middle chief, base of the acropod, a ?
representing shoe industry, the municipality's main source of income; a bunch of
grapes and barrels, representing wine-growing; a cow, representing milk
production; a rake and a hoe, representing horticulture.
2.4. In the center,
where the three angles converge, a man representing the settlement's work and
power, illuminated by knowledge - a candlestick, supported by justice - a pair
of scales, generating the municipality's ascending progress - the cogwheels.
3. Scrolls.
3.1. A main scroll charged in the center with the
municipality's name "Rolante", at the dexter end with the day and month "28.02",
and at the sinister end with year "1955", the date of inauguration of the
municipality.
3.2. The dexter scroll features the latitude of the municipal
seat, the sinister the longitude.
3.3. Based on the lateral right scroll, in
the upper part a maize plant, and in the lower part a bean plant. Based on the
lateral left scroll, in the upper part a tobacco plant, and in the lower part a
potato plant, representing the resources of the municipality since the
colonization.
3.4. Surmounting the main scroll, a big star representing the
municipal seat surrounded by smaller stars representing the districts.

Format
The coat of arms is inscribed in an imaginary rectangle of 0.80 unit
in width and 0.85 unit in length.

Appendix II.
The flag shall have a rectangular format, in width 0.7 its length.
It is
vertically divided into three sections of equal length.
The two outer
sections are red with the red shade of flag of Rio Grande do Sul and the central
section is white, charged in the center with the coat of arms of the
municipality.
The coat of arms shall have a length of 0.82 of the flag's
central stripe.

The Law abrogated Municipal Law No. 623
promulgated on 17 November 1987, which prescribed the first symbols of the
municipality.
Article 1.
§1. The coat of arms of the municipality
shall feature the following elements.
I. Shaped like a stylized mate
calabash, black, surmounted by four rectangular protrusions, symbolizing
crenels, which protect the elements composing the shield.
II. In the inner
part, on the right, the Chuvisqueiro waterfall, which, by its beauty, is a
renowned attraction point and symbolizes nature, which was generous to Rolante
through the beauty of the municipality's valleys, mountains and swamps.
III.
In the upper left part, a stylized factory with a rising sun in the background,
representing ever growing activities in the sectors of industry and commerce.
IV. In the lower left part, a tractor representing agriculture and
cattle-breeding always powerful in the municipality.
V. Separating the three
symbols, river Rolante and its tributary, river Areia, on which confluence the
settlement at the origin of the municipality was established.
VI. In the
lower part, in bold letters "Rolante - RS" and years "1909" and "1954", for the
elevation to the status of "vila" and municipal emancipation, respectively.
§2. The flag of the municipality shall have the following features.
White, charged horizontally at the lower third part with a stylized river, in
blue, representing river Rolante, the municipality's namesake, surmounted by the
coat of arms centered in the flag's middle.

the center and green-red-yellow diagonal stripes in lower hoist and upper fly.
