About the Flag

The municipality of Douradina (8,621 inhabitants in 2018; 41,985 ha) is located 630 km north-west of Curitiba.

Douradina was established in the 1950s by Salvador Lopes Gomes (d. 1996), from Maringá. After having navigated on rivers Paraná and Ivaí, he walked another three days through the forest to reach the domain he had acquired. The building of a first road to Umuarama required the erection of three wooden bridges. Shoju Sato, his son Cāndido Sato and another young man known as Vaquizaqui, surveyed the domain and delimited plots sold to colonists coming from Maringá and São Jorge.
Douradina is named for the Serra dos Dourados mountains; the town's founder eventually preferred Douradina to Douradinha.
