About the Flag

The municipality of Palmeira (34,109 inhabitants in 2021; 145,726 ha) is located 80 km west of Curitiba. The municipality is composed of the districts of Palmeira (seat) and Papagaios Novos.

Palmeira was established on 7 April 1819, as the parish of Nossa Senhora da Conceição de Palmeira, on a plot offered by Lieutenant Manuel José de Araújo and his wife, Ana Maria da Conceição de Sá.
Colônia Cecília was managed from 1890 to 1894 in Palmeira by the Italian agronomist Giovanni Rossi as South America's single example of anarchist agricultural colony.

The flag of Palmeira is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 301 promulgated on 24 February 1955

Article 2.
The flag of the municipality shall have three fields. The first one, covering the cloth's lower half, shall be green, representing plant resources. The second one shall have four white stripes and five blue stripes. The white stripes represent the people's peaceful spirit and the blue ones the color of the sky. On the left side, in the upper part, in a white field, a palm tree shall represent the toponymic symbol of the municipality. In the background, the Southern Cross, representing the Christian spirit of the people. In the lower field, on the right, a lamp is lit, recalling the words of Baron Tibagy "I want to leave a light for my family".
