The flag and coat of arms of Arapiraca were approved by law no. 534 of 18 October 1964.
The flag is a vertical tricolor, green, white and yellow, with the municipal coat of arms on the center.
The coat of arms is divided per bend sinister white and green, with a green tree in the upper half and a white
royal crown in the lower. The official description has the mural crown gold, but the
downloadable image at the
official municipal website shows it white. The supporters are a branch of tobacco and a branch
of cotton. The colors of the flag are explained as the green of the fields, the gold characteristic
of the Brazilian soil, and white as the color of the pure sentiments of the people and also the color of the
firmament, "that which we give the name of heaven." The flag was designed by
Dr. José Moacir Teófilo, Higino Vital da Silva, and Prefect Francisco Pereira Lima.
According to the designer of the coat of arms, Professor Izabel Torres de Oliveira, the tree represents
the shade of Arapiraca that sheltered the pioneer
Manoel André. The crown in the shield signifies Arapiraca's nickname, "Princess of the Alagoan Agreste."
