"Emmett Paul Jr and son, Gary M Paul worked on the flag. The special Sesquicentennial flag was presented during opening ceremonies for Van Zandt County 150th birthday on March 15, 1998.

The red, light brown and black colors of the flag represent the different colors of dirt you could find in the county such as sugar sand, red clay and black soil. There is a star in the center with symbols representing each area, like an oil derrick for Van

Interesting little tidbit, the flag was strangely and suspiciously lost for a few years until it resurfaced one day in the closet."
