The flag

Dobbs Ferry has confirmed that it has a flag, but couldn't find any image, picture or documentation to send me.

Previous flags

The village of Dobbs Ferry had two flags in its history, at least that I know of. Here's an excerpt from a 1966 Herald Statesman paper:

Annual Student Government Day was highlighted yesterday by presentation of a village flag bearing Dobb Ferry's seal to the Village Board of Trustees last night by Gary Voss, student mayor. The program was sponsored by the League of Women Voters. Surrounded by his cabinet of counterpart officials and committee heads Gary presented the flag to Mayor John F Nansa, led a salute to the flags and said a prayer. The new flag replaces one created in 1930 under auspices of a Chamber of Commerce Committee and financed by the late Col. Franklin Q. Brown. The dedication at that time was read last night by another student Marie Petruzzell. It said: "The medallion is the new seal of the Village of Dobbs Ferry, which was conceived by a committee of the Dobbs Ferry Chamber of Commerce consisting of Herman LeRoy Edgar, J.
Gordon Guthrie and the architect, Piny Rogers. The design forms a part of the new village flag, a silk edition to which will be presented to the village by Col. Brown. "The committee has succeeded in producing a design which, in picturing Jan Dobbs and his famous ferry, nearby the old willow tree and the Hudson and Palisades in the distance, admirably records the historic background and scenic beauty of Dobbs Ferry. The colors, nassau and o r a n g e [sic] and indigo blue, were selected for the Hudson-Fulton celebration as historically authentic and the dates, 1690-1873, respectively, mark the settlement by Jan Dobbs and the incorporation of Dobbs Ferry." Student Mayor Voss made another presentation, a village citation given Mrs. Shirley Elbert "for promoting national attention on Dobbs Ferry in its observance of United Nations Week."

The newer flag from 1966 had the village seal on it, and the old one from 1930 had Jan Dobbs, a colonial Dutch ferry service founder, on it.
