Description of the flag

Residents voted in favor of adopting a charter to transition from a representative town meeting system to a mayor-council government in April 2017, and the municipality transitioned to city status on January 1, 2018. Before it transitioned, it had been the largest town by population in Massachusetts.

The town flag is the only one of the city of Farmingham I could find. It uses the town seal, which incorrectly identifies the building as "Danforth's Farms" rather than "May Hall Normal School." The seal was changed in 2019 and shows the dates of Framingham's founding (1662), incorporation (1700), and becoming a city (2018).

On January 4, 2025, Mayor Charlie Sisitsky presented the new city of Framingham's flag to Massachusetts Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll and Senate President Karen Spilka at a ceremony at the Massachusetts State House. Framingham had revised its seal in 2019 to include the year it became a city, to add elements to symbolize the importance of transportation and the prominence of Framingham in the straw bonnet and hat industry, and to correct the name of the building to Mary Hall Normal School. However, the old town flag with the previous version of the seal had still been flying in the Hall of Flags at the State House.

A white flag with the town seal, bordered in a double beaded rim in the center. The seal features a shield made of flaring column, cut off by a broad red band below, overlain by a wheel, above a large building, around in blue letters the town name, and below in small letters the date of incorporation. Framingham is in Middlesex County.
