Description of the flag

In 1858, one star was added, representing Minnesota, bringing the total number of stars to 32. There were thirteen stripes representing the thirteen original colonies.

U.S. 32-star flag. 102" x 66" flag made of wool bunting, entirely hand-stitched, two whipped grommets on the canvas hoist, no markings, 32-stars (May 11, 1858 to February 14, 1859) in the canton, arranged in a row pattern (6 7 6 7 6) in 5 rows. The stars appear on both sides of the canton, stitched on top after a star pattern is excised from the blue cloth underneath.
