Shield Or with base wavy of Azure and Argent; issuant from base a throughout Medieval bridge Sable, masoned Argent and having two arches; in chief a pilgrim's staff Sable in bend with a canteen Gules tied Azure at dexter; in dexter chief a pilgrim's hat Sable, charged with a scallop Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "S. TIAGO DE RIBA-UL".
Meaning:
Staff and hat are referring to St. James the Elder, name giver of the commune.

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field.

Coat of arms

Shield Azure with base wavy of Argent and Azure, two bread paddles Or in saltire, surrounded by a 5-point star Or in chief, a wheat ear Or at dexter, a rice ear Argent at sinister and a millstone Argent above the base wavy. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll (Bénard Guedes style) with inscription in black capitals "UL".
Meaning:
The millwheel is referring to the many former watermills alongside the rivers Antuã and Ul, being the origin of modern industrialisation. The ears are representing agriculture, especially the cultivation of cereals. The paddles are referring to the local high-quality bakeries. The base wavy is representing Ul River. The star is an attribute of St. Mary of Ul, as Our Lady of Assumption being the local patron saint.
